EATING MEALS VS GRAZING ON A RAW FOOD DIET: PART 2

FREE EBOOKLET http://www.sweetnaturalliving.com One of the main questions people have when they start out on a raw food diet is whether to eat three meals a day (more/less) or to graze, which essentially means to snack and eat a little bit constantly throughout the day. In this video I get into what's the healthiest option and why. As it turns out, eating meals is the best choice, for a variety of different reasons. One is the fact that our digestion is best suited to a meal based lifestyle. When food enters the stomach it triggers something known as Peristalsis. This is the rhythmic contractions of the muscles that move food along inside the intestines. When we eat small meals the effect is less efficient and the whole system becomes a little bit sluggish and overworked. It's better to allow it to rest between meals as nature intended. Imagine that you are a primate, just like you are actually, but imagine that you are in a state of pure nature. You are out seeking food when you come upon a fig tree. You're very hungry. Do you think you'll have a couple of figs and then keep moving? No way! You're gonna eat until you're satisfied, then rest and move on. You'll do the same thing again next time you get hungry. Nibbling on some greens in between meals? Sure, but your main intake of calories would happen at meals. It's also better for your teeth and dental health to eat meals due to the fact that when you eat, the pH in your mouth drops a little bit and this environment favors the bacteria that produce cavities. This is fine as long as you are eating meals of whole, fresh and ripe fruit and maybe even rinsing your mouth with water afterwards, but if you are constantly eating the whole day you can see how it can become a problem! Culturally we are adapted to a meal based culture where we typically share meals with friends and family and enjoy meals as something that divides the day into sections and is something to look forward to. I really enjoy getting hungry before I eat. When I eat small meals often I'm never very hungry, and then when I eat a little, I don't experience being really satisfied either. It's kind of like "yeah I could eat" the whole day long. Personally, I therefore prefer meals just because it's so much more satisfying to eat when there's true hunger present. One of the reasons why people often end up grazing when they first start out on a raw vegan diet is because they are not used to eating large volumes of food at a time. Most of the food we eat on a standard diet are very concentrated in calories and so we typically eat smaller portions of it. With fruit and vegetables we must eat more bites of food to get the same amount of calories, this is because raw food has more water and fiber content. Also, when eating a low fat raw vegan diet, high in carbohydrates, the food is less dense and again we must eat more total food to be satisfied. This is great! Who doesn't love to eat? For weightloss this is ideal as the biggest challenge when loosing weight is trying to limit portions. With this diet there's no need for portion control, just eat as much as you want, it's difficult to overeat on a high carb vegan lifestyle. Some people thrive on eating only two meals per day, which is fine as long as you are eating enough calories in those meals. Most people do best with three meals a day, and some will eat four meals a day because of a higher caloric need (due to activity level and body composition) OR just because they prefer to eat a bit smaller volumes at the meal and therefore spreads it out more. It's a personal choice, but more than 4 ,meals a day would not be recommended. So, enjoy your meals people, just like a frugivore in nature. Stay satisfied on them simple sugars in sweet, juicy fruits and you'll be happy, powered up and ready to go! The pleasures of the table is for everyone to enjoy, let's get together and share this wonderful blessing of being alive and eating! Thank you for reading and watching! Matt Christopherson: this makes a lot of sense, biologically, we are not ruminants. we don't need to graze.

Patrick Verbruggen: do you know something for toothpaste because of bad add-ons like fluoride. something an intelligent man like you would use to clean teeth. ithought like coconut oil or something els

Paul Padegenis: Hey guys just watching some of your older vids. How is your mobility after eating that way.... I have an active job( cleaning, houses offices, pressure washing) I'm going to stick with this I just get very sluggish after a meal so I'm eating throughout the day. Also when is too late to eat? I usually don't get home till 9pm or so and leave the house around 6 am. As always thanks for the time and I'm really enjoying the videos!

Hope: Z
